The pickup voltage is taken as a random variable, the minimum of the specified working voltage as strength, and the measured pickup voltage of product as stress, the pickup voltage design value under some reliability is calculated by using the stress-strength interference model. The mathematical model of the dynamic optimization design of the electromagnetic system of miniature relays is established. The design of electromagnetic system in miniature relays is a non-linear problem of a high degree of complexity, so the global optimization technique must be adopted. Tabu search is a metaheuristic method. It is characterized by an ability to escape local optima by using a short-term memory of recent solution. In this paper, the tabu search mechanism and general procedure are discussed. For example, the electromagnetic system of some kind of miniature relay is optimized by this method and a satisfactory result is obtained.
