The interactive media artists want to visualize places of their fantasies, particularly render them visitable for the audience. Visitors can experience these places as possible; they can be surrounded by them from all sides such as in the so-called environments. Visitors can even be in them. There are also examples, where the visitors navigate in places, recordings of which have been manipulated by the artist, so that the artistic value of the work and not just the experience of a specific place have been pointed out.
