The finding of the surface and bedrock layer in polar region is mainly used for the prediction of climate change. This paper presents a fast and effective algorithm for detecting the thickness of polar ice sheet in Polar Regions through the Remote Sensing Imagery (RSI). Linear correlation technique is used to find whether a pixel value of RSI replicates brightness or darkness by their grey values. Heuristic approach is applied to detect BL in less computational time. The proposed algorithm is applied to detect the Surface Layer (SL) and Bedrock Layer (BL) based on its backscatter value. Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) value is used to test the accuracy rate of the information extracted using the proposed algorithm. Computational time has been calculated to find the complexity of the proposed algorithm. The experimental results indicate that with the proposed algorithm the melting rate of polar ice sheet region can be computed efficiently.
