In the aftermath of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, groundwater control was of immediate concern. Water inflow from the adjacent Hudson River through the compromised slurry wall 'bathtub' surrounding the site, ruptured water and sewer mains, and saturation from fire hoses all contributed to an already critical situation, further hampering the recovery and rehabilitation effort. An extensive pumping and deep well installation program was initiated, focused on reducing the hydrostatic loading to the severely damaged perimeter slurry wall.
