In this paper the width of flame front and the region of flame main reaction of methane/air explosion are redefined by experiments. The size of experimental tube is 80 mmx80 mm, 21 m in length. The microstructure of flame inner flow field and the characteristics of flame propagation of methane/air explosion in different conditions are detailed studied. The experiment results show that the width of flame front is up to 10~(-1)~10~0 m, which is distinctively different to the traditional opinion that the width is about 10~(-5)~10~(-4) m. By the experimental analysis of high speed schlieren images and dynamic parameters of gas explosion, it can be drawn that combustion chemical reaction is very violent and temperature increases very fast in this region, the highest temperature is up to 1600℃.
