It is difficult to examine the situation of the oil pipelines underground. Once the leakage of the oil pipelines occurs, it will be dangerous to the environment. In order to ensure the quick detection of the oil pipelines underground, a method of the safety is described in this paper. The oil in the pipelines has a certain temperature and the temperature will conduct to the surface of the soil. So, the temperature of the place that has the pipeline or the leakage will be different from which of the other places. The thermal energy of the surface of the soil is collected by the infrared detector and is processed in the CPU of a portable computer. As a result of the data proceeding, the pictures are displayed in the screen. According to the pictures, the leakage of the pipelines underground is detected. The actual application of the instrument shows that the method is effective in detecting the leakage of the pipelines underground.
