Conventional fault tree analysis (FTA) is based on probability assumption. It is hard to deal with fuzziness. To overcome this disadvantage, fuzzy sets theory is introduced. The reliability of basic events is considered as L — R type triangular fuzzy numbers with weighted exponent. The weighted exponent represents the assuring measure of decision-maker to membership functions of basic events. From the logical relationship between different events in the fault tree and fuzzy operators AND and OR, fuzzy probability of top event is solved. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the proposed method.
