Noise mitigation measures in sporting arenas - Acousticconsequences resulting from the transformation of theGhent’s “Sportpaleis” in a mega dance hall

The City of Ghent has charged ANDANTE & ACUSTICA 2000 to evaluate the acoustic consequences for the surroundings resulting from the organization of mega-dancing parties in the “Kuip” velodrome. The main target of the study was to fix the contribution of the roof and other building elements inrnthe noise measured in the environment. To perform this, a 50 KW sound source has been placed in the hall.rnThe determination of the sound power level of 120 building elements and of the roof has been done by usingrnthe sound intensity method. To evaluate their acoustic impact, noise maps have been computed by using an impact assessment model tuned after comparison between measurements data and calculations. Finally, different solutions of acoustic treatments have been investigated taking into account local regulations.
