Effect of NaCl on the Degradation of Dichloromethane in a Biotrickling Filter

Effect of NaCl on the degradation of dichloromethane (DCM) was studied in. It was found that DCM biodegradation could be inhibited by NaCl during both batch cultures and biotrickling filter operation. However, there was a little difference between the two process. In batch culture with temperature at 28.5 ℃, pH in the range of 6.5-7.2, the inhibition effect occurred when the accumulated concentration of NaCl was over 35.1 g/L. While in a biotrickling filter under the conditions of dichloromethane inlet concentration 2.02 g/m3, empty-bed gas velocity 91.7 m/h, circulating liquid flow 0.06 m3/h, temperature 28.5 ℃, pH in the range of 6.5-7.2, the inhibition effect occurred when the accumulated concentration of NaCl was over 23.4 g/L.
