Frequency diverse array (FDA) radar has attracted a lot of attention recently owing to its unique beam pattern and potential ability of completing multiple tasks simultaneously. Generally, FDA radar employs a small frequency offset across the transmit elements of the array in order to generate the range-angle-time-dependent beam pattern. With respect to the receiver architecture for FDA radar, there are mainly three types now, of which the full-band coherent FDA receiver architecture is considered the most efficient. However, this receiver architecture needs lots of filters, phase shifters and amplitude amplifiers, leading to expensive manufacture cost. This paper proposes a novel receiver architecture which employs much less filters, phase shifters and amplitude amplifiers and can obtain approximately the same transmit-receive beam pattern as full-band coherent FDA receiver architecture. The effectiveness of the proposed receiver architecture is verified by theoretic and simulation results.
