This paper represents an iterative method for the localization and reconstruction of near surface inner cavities, by the use of scattering data of Love surface waves. Firstly, a modified boundary element method (BEM) combined with method of fundamental solutions (MFS) is introduced to calculate the scattering wave field of an incident Love wave at various frequencies, which are then substituted into the inversion algorithm to reconstruct the location and shape of cavities. A linearized relation is found between cavity geometry and scattering coefficients, forming the initial image. Then the iterative process is taken to refine the images.
