Electrodeposition techniques have been employed in processing nano-scale microstructures in polycrytalline and laminated metallic materials. It has been shown that the microstructure, and hence deformation and fracture behavior of these materials are very sensitive to the processing parameters. Examples are presented for polycrystalline copper and nickel as well as laminated copper/silver and copperickel laminated structures. It is demonstrated that the main challenge in processing thick foils by electrodeposition is how to refine the microstructure without causing nodule formation. The addition of organic additives may help, however, it jopardiazes the tensile strength by causing intergranular fracture.
