Application of thermal analysis to the evaluation of materials used in the historic preservation of stone

The combined technique TGA/DTA/MS, thermogravimetric analsis/differential thermal analysis/mass spectrometry, has been used, in conjunction with other techniques, to analyze a specific patching material that had become seriously discolored on its surface after being used to repair an historic stone pillar at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, New York.
