Subambient TGA operation is useful for following the weight loss of water or other volatiles in minerals, pharmaceuticals, paints and coatings. Subambient operation of the TA Instruments 2950 Thermogravimetric Analyzer is achieved by circulating chilled fluid through the normal furnace shield. Temperatures as low as -20deg C are easily achieved. When coupled with Modulated TGA~(TM), kinetic parameters may be obtained for weight losses as low as -17deg C. The gadolinium curie temperature at 18 deg C is used for temperature calibration purposes.
