A phenomenological cyclic plasticity model with the damage countingrnparameter, proposed for the description of the cyclic loading behaviorrnof typical carbon steels during low- and high-cycle fatigue subjected tornstressing both lower and higher than the dominant yielding stress, isrnapplied for the prediction of cyclic softening phenomena and crackrninitiation life under the symmetrical fatigue loading condition with andrnwithout multi-step changes of the applied stresses.
