This paper documents field and laboratory testing performed on Sabkharnat a project site located in the Middle East. Constructability of placingrnfill material on Sabkha was assessed to ensure that temporary structuresrncould be built on the fill material overlying Sabkha. The fieldrninvestigation included: (1) performing seventeen field Dynamic ConernPenetrometer (DCP) Tests to estimate shear strength parameters andrnSabkha thickness, (2) excavating two test pits to collect compositernSabkha samples for geotechnical and chemical laboratory testing, (3)rnand conducting a field test pad to assess the required fill materialrnthickness over Sabkha for stability of operating equipment.rnLaboratory testing indicated low shear strength parameters and a highrnconcentration of chlorides and sulphates. Finally, field observationsrnfrom the field test pad indicated that in order for equipment to operaternin stable conditions during placement of the fill over Sabkha, thernthickness of the fill material must not be less than 70 cm. Constructionrnmethodology for fill material placement over Sabkha was developedrnand applied for construction of temporary structures.
