Export and Manufacturing Agglomeration in China:Evidence of Small Enterprises

Starting from the logical connections between small enterprises' growth and their regional concentration,this paper identifies the export elements in the agglomeration of the major manufacturing industries in China with a special emphasis on small enterprises.The empirical check of small enterprises is focused on three targets successively,that is the general connections between export and manufacturing agglomeration,the export elements in all pro-agglomeration factors in specific industries,and the difference of the export effects between different industries with differentiated agglomeration degree.The empirical works show clear existence of the agglomeration effects of the export on major manufacturing industries.After considering differentiated agglomeration degree,the result shows that the positive relationship between export and industrial agglomeration exists in the highly concentrated industries,but such relationship gets a negative answer in the less concentrated industries.
