摘要

The tuned viscous mass damper (TVMD) system is a new seismic control systemrndeveloped by the authors. The basic concept of the present system is the same asrnthat of a dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) or a tuned mass damper (TMD), and therndesign method proposed by Den Hartog for the DVA or the TMD using fixed pointsrnof the resonance curve is also applicable to the TVMD system as long as the primaryrnstructure is an undamped single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system. Although wernhave proposed a design method for a damped multiple-degree-of-freedom system byrnusing a numerical optimization method, it deals with only single mode control. In thisrnstudy, design examples of single-mode and two-mode control systems are comparedrnto illustrate the effectiveness of controlling the higher modes.
