Clean Energy for West Central Florida

The practicability of providing a substantial portion of the electric load growth with solar energy in west central Florida has been analyzed. Investments in solar water heaters at today's prices are shown to be economically advantageous to siteowners, utilities or third parties in west central Florida where they are exceptionally well suited to the climate and circumstances. This makes them a good prospect for supplying a substantial portion of the large growth in the region's energy demand projected for the next 20 years. Solar water ehaters would be most prominent in the early part of a 20 year soalr deployment program with photovoltaic (PV) instalations carrying more of hte load when the technology becomes cost effective in the latter part of the period. The regional economy would benefit from the proposed program as a result of energy cost savings by siteowners, air pollution reduction and retention of fuel costs. Increases that would occur in employment, GRP and personal income are quantified.
