Cogeneration is the need of the day for Sugar Industry. Various measures are introduced to improve the efficiency of the Cogeneration plant, so that the maximum benefits are derived from the bagasse. Feed water heater is one of such equipment used in power plants to increase the cycle efficiency. In this article, the application of the feed water heaters is discussed.Part of the steam is extracted from steam turbine and used for feed water heating, due to which the power generation comes down slightly. But the gain in the cycle efficiency is reflected in the steam to fuel ratio, which is significant. This gain in cycle efficiency is due to the reduction in the heat rejected in the condenser. This article gives the advantage of using HP heaters in power plant with condensing turbines.
