A novel naphthyl-based phthalonitrile polymer was synthesized and it showed high thermal stability and high glass transition temperature (411 ℃).The phthalonitrile monomer,namely,2,7-bis(3,4-dicyanophenoxy) naphthalene (BDCN),was synthesized from the reaction of 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) with 4-nitrophthalonitrile (NPN).The high performance BDCN/ diamond polymer was prepared via a 2-step approach:synthesis of BDCN prepolymer and posteure of BDCN prepolymeranodiamond mixture at elevated temperatures.The BDCN polymer/diamond nanocomposites exhibited high storage modulus,high thermal stability and high glass transition temperature.Moreover,the fracture toughness of high performance BDCN polymer was improved with incorporation of nanodiamond particles.
