Feasibility of using floating quay container terminal for loading to orrnunloading from container ships from both sides is discussed. Thernhydrodynamic interaction effects among a fixed quay, container ship,rnand floating quay, which are parallel to one another, are investigated.rnThe three-body side-by-side arrangement is compared with therncontainer ship alone in the absence of the floating quay to identify therninteraction effects. Hydrodynamic coefficients of the interacting bodiesrnare obtained using a three dimensional diffraction/radiation program forrnmultiple bodies. Using vessel-lines coupled dynamic analysis computerrnprogram, the relative motion between floating quay and container shiprnis simulated in time domain. It is assumed in the present study that thernfloating quay is positioned by a dolphin mooring system. The dolphinrnforces and relative motions among container ship, fixed and floatingrnquay are simulated to ascertain that the container loading andrnoffloading can be done in the worst operating wave condition withoutrnany problem.
