The Two-stage ROV to the Oceans' Deepest Depth

JAMSTEC has been developing a remotely operated vehicle system tornexplore the deepest parts of the oceans since April 2005. This ROVrnsystem's main mission is to survey sediments in sea bottoms. Thernsystem consists of a sampling station (corresponding to launcher) and arnsediment probe (corresponding to ROV). The station contains two typesrnof bottom samplers as well as the probe. One launches the probe tornmake a preliminary survey, launching the sampler to obtain a sample.rnThe samplers can be changed a gravity core sampler for a grabber. Thernsystem assembly will be completed by the spring of 2006 and then itsrnsea trials will be started.
