A finite element method is developed for the time domain analysis onrnthe hydroelastic deformation of a pontoon-type very large floatingrnstructure with fully nonlinear free surface conditions. A threedimensionalrnfree surface flow is formulated in the scope of potentialrnflow theory with the nonlinear free surface conditions. To describe thernmotion of VLFS the Mindlin plate modeling is adopted. The equationrnof plate motion is discretized by finite elements using virtual workrnprinciple and integrated by Newmark method. To consider the fluidstructurerninteraction, the nonlinear free surface motion and the platernmotion are numerically solved through an iterative method at each timernstep.
