The ENVISAT validation programme for thernatmospheric instruments MIPAS, SCIAMACHY andrnGOMOS is based on a number of balloon-bone, aircraftrnand ground-based correlative measurements. In particularrnthe activities of validation scientists were coordinated byrnESA within the ENVISAT Stratospheric Aircraft andrnBalloon Campaign or ESABC. As a companion to arnsimilar paper on CH_4 and in parallel to the contribution ofrnthe individual validation teams, the present paperrnprovides a synthesis of comparisons performed betweenrnMIPAS N_2O profiles produced by the current ESArnoperational software (Instrument Processing Facilityrnversion 4.61 or IPF v4.61) or by the IMK-FZK scientificrnprocessor and correlative measurements obtained fromrnballoon and aircraft experiments as well as fromrnground-based instruments.
