VALIDATION OF GOMOS OZONE MEASUREMENTS USING DATA ASSIMILATION

An assimilation system allowing combining thernforecasts of a CTM with observations is used to assessrnthe quality of GOMOS ozone measurements. Only arnsub-sample of all GOMOS observations performed sornfar were available in the validation dataset that wasrnavailable to the ACVT community. This allowed us tornfind that the average precision of GOMOS local O3rndensity retrievals is of the order of 5% in the lowrnstratosphere. It has not been possible to draw anyrnsignificant conclusions on the bias using this dataset andrnfurther investigations are required.
