SCIAMACHY ABSORBING AEROSOL INDEX: THE SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTCOMPARED TO THE OPERATIONAL PRODUCT AND TOMS DATA

摘要

The KNMI scientific Absorbing Aerosol Index (AAI)rnproduct from SCIAMACHY is presented. It is compared tornthe operational SCIAMACHY level-2 AAI product and tornthe TOMS AAI on the basis of a recent dust outbreak on 5rnApril 2004 over the Sahara. The scientific AAI product isrnstill very sensitive to calibration errors in the reflectance,rnbut its values are in the right range compared to TOMSrnAAI and it produces physically meaningful results.
