MERIS normalized water leaving radiances LWN have been assessed at the Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower in the northern Adriatic Sea using in situ data derived from radiometric measurements from autonomous above-water systems. Results indicate a systematic overestimate of the satellite derived LWN which suggests an underestimate of the atmospheric effects due to an erroneous determination of the type or quantity of aerosol.
