STABILITY OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES USING MIXED, HIGHER-ORDER ANALYTICAL FORMULATION

Stability of laminated composite plates is evaluated by using a mixed, higher-order analytical theory. Two mixed models viz., HYF1 and HYF2 have been proposed. Displacement field, in the first, local higher-order mixed model (HYF1) has been assumed to vary cubically in a layer-wise continuous manner in the thickness direction of the laminate. However, it has been considered to vary cubically through the entire thickness of a plate, for a global, mixed higher-order model, HYF2. Both, the displacements as well as transverse stress continuities iiave been enforced in the formulation by incorporating displacements and transverse stresses as the degrees of freedom. Equilibrium equations have been derived by applying variational principle to the potential energy of a laminate. The present analytical results have been shown to be in excellent agreement with the three-dimensional elasticity solutions.
