FTTx Optical Fiber Cable For Easy Mid-span Access

In this paper, we describe the newly developed SZ-slotted corernoptical fiber cables which enable easy and fast mid-span accessrnoperation. This cable uses unique yarns and plastic tape spirallyrnwound on the outer surface of the slotted rod that can be removedrnall at once without using any cutting tools. It was also confirmedrnthat this cable has excellent transmission and mechanicalrncharacteristics, and the operation time to take out ribbons from therncable is reduced by about 40% compared to a conventionalrnstructure. This characteristic is beneficial to the cost reduction ofrnfiber to the x (FTTx) network construction. We manufactured 20-,rn24-, 40-, 60-, 100-, 200-, and 300-fiber cables with this technique.
