Electrical performance of category 6 U/UTP and F/UTP cable in harsh applications

When it comes about the many different environments where a LAN cables can be applied, it's usual to care only about the mechanical and flame properties of the cable over it transmission performance during time exposure. To attend the special request of those places, however, is important to know that the environment can change the jacket properties and thus the cable electrical performance. So, this work shows the relationship between the electrical changes on raw materials properties caused by the environment, eg. oil, water and extreme temperature ranges, and their effects in electrical performance of the cables category 6 U/UTP and F/UTP among the time exposure. The goal is to improve knowledge about harsh environments and make more accurate the decision about what kind of cable is advisable in order to have the best electrical performance in any situation.
