Regarding the OF cables used for the last part of FTTH networks, the network designer needs to select the most suitable solution, balancing between maximum fiber content, minimum dimensions and maximal robustness for easy installation in access networks. With an optimized design, it is possible to provide a robust mini-unitube cable with less than 3 mm outer diameter and as many as 24 single mode fibers for blown installation into microducts of 4 mm inner diameter. Design and material considerations will be reported, with the focus on the low-temperature and the blowing performance, as being the most critical cable parameters for this application.
