The technology of this paper relates to fiber optic equipment, such as indoor local convergence points (LCPs), indoor fiber distribution hubs (FDH) and fiber distribution terminals (FDTs) and the strain relief of small diameter fiber optic cables. In fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) multiple dwelling unit (MDU) applications, rugged fiber optic cables are now being deployed. These applications require secure attachment and sealing of multiple fiber optic cables to the LCP/FDT bulkhead. This paper covers a solution for 4.8 mm rugged drop cables. There are several topologies available to the MDU systems designer. This paper focuses on a "direct-drop" or "homerun" topology, where the fiber optic drop cable runs directly from the indoor LCP to the living unit. The application described is one where the drop cable is either field-spliced or factory-terminated at the LCP, and the living unit end is either factory- or field-terminated.
