The hepatopancreatic parvo virus (HPV) disease of the Chinese prawn Penaeus chinensis is a kind of virus disease which is widely epidemic among the Chinese prawn. Most of the reports pointed out that this virus disease occurs during the period of seedling breeding of the prawn and can cause death of 100 % larvae in the infected water body in 3-7 days, and during the period of the infection of this disease, the accumulated mortality can reach over 60%, though acute mass mortality is not seen. Hence, this disease is also a kind of one with great harmfulness. This kind of virus disease has no specific external symptoms, but is often complicated by certain bacterial diseases. Therefor breeders often do not see the latent harmfulness of the virus and while miss-recognizing it as a bacterial disease, do not adopt effective measures and thus cans-ing losses due to missing the optimum opportunity to deal with it. In view of the above-mentioned condition, it is quite necessary to study the early stage of this disease, and its rapid diagnostic method. The authors have accomplished the studies on cc-agglutination test as used in immune serology and the immune gold and silver staining method. This paper develops the study by using the direct fluorescent antibody method, to observe its diagnostic effects.
