Production and characterization of intergeneric hybrids between Ajania pacifica and three species of Chrysanthemum with different ploidies were investigated.The hybridization was performed without emasculation since seed set of selfing A.pacifica is low.About 20% seed set was obtained from the hybridization of A.pacifica × C.vestitum.About 10% seed set was similarly obtained from the hybridizations of A.pacifica × C.indicum and A.pacifica × C.nakingense.32, 34,3 plants of the progenies were confirmed to be hybrids respectively who possess a singularly unique trait (ray florets) from the pollen plant but not from the seed plant.Some novel color in the progeny was found in this experiment.The chromosome number of three checked hybrid plants between A.pacifica and C.vestitum was 71,81 and 82 respectively.The fertility of the hybrids was high enough to be used further for breeding estimated by high seed sets in BC1 or further crosses.This work documents the first step in an effort to combine desirable horticultural features into multi-generic hybrids in the future.
