An Enhanced Reputation-Based Data Forwarding Mechanism for VANETs

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a self-configuring and infras-tructureless network connecting high mobility random vehicles by wireless links. Due to high mobility, data transmission between two vehicles may possible through other intermediate vehicles but it is difficult to transmit messages through these intermediate vehicles because intermediate vehicles may violate security by sending the wrong messages or by not forwarding messages. So transmission of messages using trust-based VANETs is a difficult task. Various techniques are proposed by researchers to forward packets in trust-based VANETs. Each technique has its own mechanism as well as its pros and cons. In this paper we propose an enhanced trust-based mechanism to select trusted nodes through which messages are transmitted. The proposed mechanism has been implemented using ONE (opportunistic network environment) simulator. Results shows that the proposed mechanism has a high delivery ratio and less message delay than existing reputation-based mechanisms.
