Nearly all pavements contain discontinuities in the direction of travel that can generate impulsenoise due to the unique tire-pavement interaction at these locations. The most common of theseare joints, which can be periodic such as those associated with many concrete pavements orbridge decks, or isolated such as those that separate pavement and bridge structures.
