Proficiency tests on environmental noise

This paper describes the Danish experiences with regular proficiency tests among approx.rn30 laboratories since 1979. The goal has been to improve the measurement accuracy of thernparticipants and to provide them with documentation of their performance quality, whichrnis needed to fulfill their laboratory accreditation demands.rnWhen arranging these Round Robin tests there are guidelines to be found in ISO/IECrn17043:2010 Conformity assessment – General requirements for proficiency testing. Many ofrnthe tests have involved measuring and analyzing of noise according to ISO standard 1996-rn2. This standard, with small changes, is used in Denmark and the Nordic countries in thernfield of environmental noise. In this paper selected data are presented from the history ofrnthe 19 proficiency tests. The results show that the proficiency tests have improved thernaccuracy of the participants’ measurement results. In the recent years the Internet hasrnmade it simple to distribute and collect the test material, which gives opportunities forrnothers than Nordic laboratories to participate.
