New Noise Sources in Urban Areas

The German parliament decided a quick development and exploitation of renewablernenergy sources some years ago. Following that decision, efficient electric, cooling and heatrngenerators are funded with the goal to create smart grids in Germany. Now not only energyrncompanies, but also private households have the possibility to generate heat and electricityrnwith an appropriate financial and technical effort. The market for block-heating powerrnplants, wind turbines, air conditioners and heat pumps is growing. Roughly guessed therernwill be more than 10 million private electric, cooling and heat generators in Germany inrn2030. By this development we expect a new class of noise sources in urban areas.rnAccording to our urban noise policy we are studying the impact of these new noise sourcesrnand are developing legislative instruments for effective noise abatement.rnThis paper is a progress report of our work on this challenge.
