We present a new look at the matched filtering andrndechirping compression algorithms for stepped-frequencyrnchirp signal (SFCS) by introducing different equivalentrnchirp models, i.e. the former approach results in anrnequivalent chirp signal with same time width as that ofrnsubchirp but much larger chirp rate and the later approachrnresults in an equivalent chirp with same chirp rate as thatrnof subchirp but much wider time width. Some practicalrnissues are addressed for implementing the algorithms intornradar system, e.g. the amplitude and phase errorsrncorrection to subchirp and the amplitude balance betweenrnsubchirps. Both simulation and real data processingrnresults are presented to show they are in high accordancernwith each other.
