RUNGUI - A FRAMEWORK FOR RUNTIME GENERATED USER ADAPTED INTERFACES

This paper presents our framework for runtime generatedrnuser adapted interfaces. It was named RUNGUI to emphasisrnthat user interfaces are generated during the runtime ofrnan application. With RUNGUI, it is possible to generaternadaptable user interfaces in the sense that they adapt to therndevice as well as to the preferences of the user at runtime.rnThe framework runs on a server to ensure a fast calculationrnof the sophisticated interface generating process makingrnit usable from arbitrary client systems or mobile devices.rnThe Abstract Definition of the Interface (ADI) definesrnthe content of the user interface. It is stored in a xmlrnfile and transferred to the server where the final user interfacernis calculated. The results are returned to the clientrnwhich then builds the customized user interface. Therefore,rnwe introduce the concept of abstract events to separate thernbusiness logic from the event system. These advantagesrnmake the utilization of the framework very comfortable forrnsoftware developers. It allows them to concentrate on thernlogic rather than focusing on the UI components.
