To date, IEEE 802.16 WiMAX has been seen increasinglyrnas a fairly promising technique for next wirelessrncommunication networks to provide broadband wirelessrnaccess, to which has been paid more attention by morernand more researchers. When it comes to communicationrnschemes or protocols in wireless networks, security isrnworth being considered as a critical issue. Likewise, inrnIEEE 802.16, researchers proposed a lot of securityrnschemes or protocols based on IEEE 802.16 standard.rnHowever, these proposed protocols still suffer from plentyrnof malicious attacks. In this paper, we describe andrnanalyze the security issues of the authentication and keyrnmanagement protocols in WiMAX, which are veryrnvulnerable to many attacks. Then we focus Xu, Matthews,rnand Huang proposed protocol, secure roaming of keyrnassociation during handover. Although it settles thernproblem with re-launch the authentication and keyrnmanagement when an MSS roams into from one basernstation to the other base station, could not guarantee thernforward secrecy and backward secrecy at all. So we mayrnalso propose a possible solution, secure roaming of keyrnassociation scheme providing perfect forward secrecy,rnwhich adopts elliptic curve cryptography and offers fasterrncomputational efficiency than RSA public key algorithm.
