摘要

Healthcare-associated transmission of highconsequencernpathogens such as the Ebola virus,rnSARS coronavirus, MERS coronavirus, novelrnrespiratory pathogens, multidrug-resistant bacteria, rnand Clostridium difficile poses a significant risk tornpatients, families, and healthcare workers, leadingrnto morbidity and mortality and dramaticallyrnincreased healthcare costs. Further, transmission ofrnhigh-consequence pathogens in healthcare settingsrnoften serves to fuel and sustain outbreaks andrnepidemics. For example, recent experience duringrnthe 2014-2015 Ebola virus disease outbreakrndemonstrated major gaps in the effectiveness ofrnexisting infection prevention strategies to preventrntransmission of high-consequence pathogens inrnhealthcare settings.
