New technologies emerge every day with practical applications for open pit mining. For every operation,rnmanagers need to understand the best way to increase efficiency in drilling, blasting, fragmentation andrnhauling routes.rnTo improve quarry planning, updated surveying is a must, but can be expensive and time consuming withrnthe use of the traditional methods and not always provide flexibility in the extracted information.rnRPAs have many applications in blasting, improving the overall analysis of the performance of the blast.rnAs an aid in safety, it provides a final area verification clearance prior to blasting, records blasts from arndifferent perspective and aerial surveying for photogrammetric analysis.rnWith photogrammetric analysis of the quarry using RPAs, quarry managers and blasting companies canrnget valuable of information like: topographic measurements, high quality aerial photography of the pit,rnvolume of the material stack, fragmentation analysis of the blast and a step by step produced or reviewedrndesign of the quarry that can be updated daily.rnThe purpose of this project is to share our experience while applying this new tool in open pit mining; anrnoverview of what can be easily accomplished for photogrammetric analysis, examples of quarry planningrnusing the results from the analysis, and current limitations on its application.
