A miniaturized atomic fluorescence spectrometer (AFS) was developed based on a novel lab-on-valve (LOV) configuration, integrates hydride generation, gas- liquid separation, in-situ atomization and fluorescence detection. The hydride generated was separated in the gas-liquid separation chamber and carried by argon into the atomization chamber, where the hydride was atomized by dielectric barrier discharge. The atomic species were immediately excited in the excitation chamber by a hollow cathode lamp and the fluorescence was monitored by a side-on photomultiplier. A limit of detection of 0.03μgL<'-1> (As) with a sample consumption of 500μL was achieved. A sampling frequency of 80h<'-1> was obtained along with a RSD value of 2.8% (2.0μgL<'-1>).
