This paper examines the SP-05/2 outer barrier of the N2-W4-A category (producer: Stalpro-dukt JSC, Bochnia, Poland), with the B-type guide bar, located on a horizontal concave arch. The arch is on an accelerated traffic main road, with the allowable radius of a curved road axis of the range 140-220 m. In order to ensure an acceptable TB11 standard crash test, a composite /foam/rubber overlay (code CFR2) has been designed, which was combined with the B-type guide bar with screw connectors using only the empty holes in the guide axis. The overlay increases the flexibility and strength of the barrier and also reduces vehicle/barrier friction. The study, described in this paper, develops a methodology for the numerical modelling and simulation of the unmodified (straight barrier) and the modified (curved barrier) TB11 crash test, with and without the overlay. The TB11 virtual crash tests have been conducted for the four above-mentioned barrier systems. The Geo Metro (Suzuki Swift) car numerical model has been taken from the National Crash Analysis Centre, USA. Crash tests were simulated using the finite element nonlinear explicit code LS-Dyna v971. The results include all the collision parameters required by the EN 1317 standard. It has been proved that the SP-05/2 barrier with the CFR2 overlay, located on road bends, demonstrated an acceptable TB11 crash test.
