LAND COVER AND WATER AVAILABILITY IN SOUTHERN ANGOLA. STUDYING THE LAKES IN THE KUNENE AND CUVELAI BASINS USING LANDSAT AND MODIS

The landscape of Angola experienced significantrnchanges in the past decades. Land Use and LandrnCover (LULC) dynamics are addressed in thisrnstudy, with the focus on a sector of the Cuvelairnbasin, in Southern Angola.rnThe basin is formed by numerous lakes and streamsrnthat provide both opportunities and challenges torndevelopment, public health and resourcernmanagement.rnIt was found that the area covered by traditionalrnsettlements increased from 1995 to 2013. At thernsame time, several techniques were successfullyrntested to map and monitor the regional hydrologicalrnfeatures from satellite data (MODIS and Landsat).
