Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake are the largest lakesrnin China and contribute to flood control in Yangzernbasin. These lakes have the specific behaviour ofrnmonsoon lakes, with very large and rapid levelrnvariations. All the altimetric data of ENVISAT nominalrnmission have been processed these lakes.rnTopex/Poseidon and JASON2 data have also beenrnanalysed over Dongting Lake.rnThese altimetric measurements have been validatedrnusing in situ water level data. Poyang Lake surfacernvariations are monitored since 2000 within thernframework of the ESA MOST DRAGON programs,rnusing time series of medium and high resolution opticalrnimages. A strong correlation of these surfaces withrnaltimetric water level is demonstrated for various subbasins.rnFinally, water levels and surface are coherentrnwith gauge station measurements.
