Solidification is important in almost all metallurgical manufacturing processes. Many characteristics of the castings, such as macro and microstructure, internal defects and solute distribution are defiend during solidification. These aspects have strong influence on the mechanical properties of hte castings. This is the reason why it is important to carry out studies with a view to greater knowledge of the solidification process of metals.
