ADAPTIVE ON-BOARD SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE: THE GOCE MISSION RECOVERY CASES

This paper presents 2010's major problems andrncorresponding recoveries on the platform on-boardrncomputer of ESA's gravity mission GOCE. Section 1rndescribes the GOCE mission and its peculiaritiesrncompared to a typical Earth Observation mission.rnSection 2 describes the Data Handling subsystemrnarchitecture. Sections 3 and 4 describe the problemsrnoccurred and the consequences in terms of operationalrnaspects and software maintenance. Particular emphasisrnis put on the adaptive software changes needed to copernwith the failure effects. Sections 5 and 6 describe therncurrent status and lessons learned from the recoveriesrnperformed.
